Frequently Asked Questions
The Bandit Hat Cinch™ is a lightweight retention system designed to keep your cowboy hat secure during high-speed runs, rough rides, and everyday wear. Unlike stampede strings or adhesives, the Hat Cinch installs discreetly inside your hat - no visible straps, no sticky residue, just a secure fit that looks natural.
When you take your Hat Cinch out of the packaging, you’ll notice a small black grip rectangle. That’s the key to comfort—it’s designed to rest against your forehead. That means it needs to be placed in the front inside band of your cowboy hat. Let’s get it installed.

Installation Steps
- Step 1: Start by inserting the left side of the Hat Cinch behind the hat band.
- Step 2: Now tuck in the right side, also behind the band.
- Step 3: Finally, press down the middle section so the Hat Cinch sits snugly and securely in place.
When not in use, store it in your back pocket or hang it from a saddle horn or wrist using the attached string.
Wearing Your Hat the Right Way
When putting on your cowboy hat, make sure all your hair is off to the side or pulled back from your forehead. Place the Hat Cinch on your lower forehead first, and then begin to pull down the back of the hat using the front-to-back-to-back method. Avoid pressing it straight down—this could cause the Hat Cinch™ to shift up and affect the fit.
Remember, the Hat Cinch is installed in the front of your hat, and that black grip is designed to comfortably grip your forehead, keeping your hat secure and stylish.
And that’s it! You’re ready to ride with confidence. Your Bandit Hat Cinch™ is in place and doing its job.
Yes. The Bandit Hat Cinch™ is placed into the inside of the hat band, it’s non-invasive, and does not alter the appearance of your hat. The patent design makes it competition-compliant. Contestants at all levels and all disciplines have used the product; Women’s Professional Rodeo Association, Xtreme Barrel Racing, Columbia River Circuit Rodeos, High School Rodeos, Junior High National Finals, Pendleton Round-up, and many other national competitions! No more fines for losing your hat mid-run because of this innovative sleek design!
Not at all. The Hat Cinch is designed to be:
- Ultra-lightweight (you won’t feel it once installed)
- Non-pinching (no forehead pressure or headaches)
- Sweat-friendly (breathable and easy to clean)
In rare cases (like oversized hats or extremely loose fit), the Hat Cinch may need a quick adjustment. Here’s what to do:
- Reposition the Cinch slightly deeper inside the hat band
- Make sure your hat isn’t more than one size too big
- Double-check that the Cinch is seated evenly on both sides
- If you’re concerned about it coming off and losing your Hat Cinch, take the string that is attached to the hat cinch into your hat.
If you still have trouble, contact us- we’ll walk you through a fix or send a replacement.

- Wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap
- Air dry before reinstalling
It’s built tough enough for daily use and should last for years.
